IVF
Have you ever done something so big that you were afraid to see what the outcome was? Well my husband and I are experiencing the biggest gamble of our lives.
IVF
I’ve done quite a few fertility treatments, but nothing worked. I’ve gotten pregnant quite a few times and all of them failed. What makes IVF different? The difference with IVF is that it’s very expensive. If you don’t have insurance that covers IVF, people will use up their life savings. Some may even take out a loan while this procedure isn’t guaranteed. Also, the cost can crush someone’s dream because they can’t afford it, but abortions can be free or at low cost which is so fucking shitty.
My husband and I are willing to take that chance. The day I posted a heartbreaking post about how much IVF is going to cost, my husband decided to pull the trigger and told me to set up an appointment. I met my new infertility doctor yesterday (4/12) and she is such an amazing person with so much compassion, I instantly appreciated her. First off, she was 30 minutes late, which I didn’t mind because my husband was with me. When she walked in, she sincerely apologized that she was late. She took her time answering all of our questions. She didn’t rush us at all. Her explanations and what to expect was so detailed and her instructions were a lot to remember. She took the time typing up her instructions on the computer so we wouldn’t miss a step. With her taking time and making sure we both understood all the details and instructions, I understood why she was late. I appreciated that she gave us and all her other patients the time they needed to walk out of the office with feelings of excitement to start this IVF process.
During our consultation with her, I found out some disturbing news. My previous OBGYN doctor (in Burlingame) had diagnosed me with PCOS. My new doctor asked how I was diagnosed. I told her that my previous doctor just told me, but didn’t run any test. She asked me a few questions. She asked me if I’m experiencing any issues with acne. I told her no. She asked me if I noticed any facial hair, I kept it real and said, that’s always been there since I was little. She and my husband laughed. Then she said, she doesn’t think I have PCOS, but thinks I might have endometriosis because I told her that I do experience cramping, which is tolerable but uncomfortable. She wasn’t going to diagnose me with that just yet, she is going to do a procedure to see what was really going on. When I was diagnosed with PCOS from my previous doctor in Burlingame. (My SF OBGYN’s are both amazing so I’m not talking about them.) I’ve read a ton of articles. I’ve researched all the foods I should be eating. I’ve studied how you can get PCOS and how to battle it. Now if it’s true that I don’t have PCOS, I have wasted my time while I could have been researching about any diagnosis that I really have.
Also, since I did have an ectopic pregnancy, I have to do this procedure where they have to go in and see if my right Fallopian tube is dialated and filled with fluid. If so, that can definitely disturb my procedure so I might have to have my Fallopian tube removed. I have to wait until I start cycle day 1 to schedule my Saline Infused Sonohysterography which should happen on cycle day 6-11 to see if my tube needs to be removed.
So for now until Aunt Flo arrives (fertility terms that I’ve learned.) I’ve started working out again. I think it’s safe to say that I can start running again. I’m motivated to get into tip-top shape so I can make this process go smoothly. This is our last chance with fertility treatments. We’ve exhausted all of our resources. If this IVF procedure doesn’t work, adoption is also an option of us.
It is the waiting game for me. While I wait, I’m going to occupy my time by bringing sexy back.
