IVF Set Back

IVF Set Back

Here I am running away from my set backs! There has been a couple set backs for our IVF process, which I’ve been feeling a tad disappointed.

I went to my IVF consult on May 22, 2019. My doctor gave me all of my lab test results, which came out great. Then she suggested a few things, which I know my husband would want us to do. She told us about doing genetic testing on our embryos once the egg fertilizes. We were a bit discouraged because we were not sure where they would biopsy the embryo, but my doctor reassured us that they were going to take a biopsy on the outer layer of the cells. Not sure if I’m using the correct terminology, but all I know is my embryos will be safe. She suggested this procedure because of my history of miscarriages and failed pregnancies. Even though this will be an extra 5k on top of the IVF cost, we thought it would be best to do it. This will push us back another 6 weeks because once all of the eggs fertilizes, they would biopsy all the eggs for testing. Then they would have to freeze the eggs. Once they figure out which egg has the highest grade, they would defrost the egg and transfer the egg in my uterus.

That’s not the biggest push back. My husband and I didn’t know how long this process will be. Since my doctor felt like she wanted to do every test ever created to see if anything will disturb our IVF process, this felt like eternity. From my sugar and cholesterol levels to any STDs. Tests on my blocked Fallopian tube to my husband’s quality and quantity of sperm. There was a lot of poking and prodding! By looking at mine and my husband’s lab results, we got the clearance to start IVF!

I have a “Financial” appointment on May 30th to go over what the IVF consists of and how much every thing will costs us. From ultrasounds to all the medications, from all the testing and the IVF procedure. Not looking forward to the appointment.

So let me backtrack to our second set back. Again, since we didn’t know how long this process will be, my husband booked a trip in July thinking that the IVF process will already be over with. So I was going over the “calendar” part during my appointment. I was going to start birth control on Day x to Day x. Then I would start the injection shots to stimulate my ovaries. After that would be egg retrieval day. STOP! There’s the set back. Egg retrieval day is a day we will be in Hawaii. Shit! Shit! Shit! When I told my doctor that I will be out of the state, she said we can start the process when I come back. She will just prescribe me with all my medications so I can have it ready.

Ugh!!!! I’ve already waited a long time for this moment and knowing I have to wait another 2 months to start! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! So going over my calendar again, I won’t be able to have my eggs transferred until September. After the all the shots, egg retrieval, biopsy of my eggs, the egg freezing, and the defrosting, September looks like the month to finally complete everything. But after the egg transfer, I have to wait another 2 weeks to see if the IVF procedure even worked. If it did, then we have to pray that this little one will stick.

In the meantime, I’m going to focus on me. I’m going to get down to my goal weight by eating better and exercising. I’m already down 6 pounds. I have another 25 to go!! I have found my love for running again. Before I use to drink energy drinks and take energy pills to run a long period of time, but I need to prepare my body for this process. I read up on essential oils and there is an energy essential oil, which I found on amazon.

There’s really nothing I can do to change my retrieval date. So I’m not going to stress over this. I’ll just be patient until my day comes and hopefully this will be the best decision my husband and I ever made.

Here are a couple of photos to that I look at to help me stay motivated on working out.
