Hi.

Welcome to my blog. Please join me in my journey to overcome infertility.

Clomid-Round 2

Clomid-Round 2

Clomid is very difficult. I know you are thinking how could it be difficult, all you have to do is swallow a pill. Well I messed up my first round of clomid because there was so much to remember. Sorry for the TMI, but you have to take the first pill on your third day of your cycle. BUT for those of you who are light bleeders like me, I couldn’t tell If my first day was spotting or light. UGH! Spotting does NOT count as day 1.

Then you have to figure out when you are ovulating. I spent hundreds of dollars on those clear blue ovulation sticks. Do they even work? I remember going through about 30 ovulation sticks in one month because that smiley would not stop blinking! I was wondering when I was going to get my peak! Then I bought First Response ovulation sticks, it stopped working the third day of using it. WTH? A broken one? So if you go into my bathroom, you will find ovulations sticks in my drawers, on top of the sink in mason jars. I should find a wall art of an ovulation stick and put it in my bathroom. Anyway…

Then during ovulation week, me and my husband would have to have sex every other day. Tired or not (we’re always tired) we still have to do it. It's not fun when it’s forced.

After ovulation week, I have to stick a progesterone pill up my vagina 2 times a day for 10 days. This is now the waiting game. My cycles are not regular so I never know when I’m going to get my period or when I’m ovulating, so knowing when to take a pregnancy test is very important. I don’t want to take it too early, which will cause a false negative. Just in case I am pregnant, I might accidentally drink a couple glasses of wine to escape my misery. Or making it a challenge to wait as long as you can. Waiting as long as you can never works. I always test too early and get a negative and then I have to go to the store and buy another 2 pack. The ones my husband wants me to get are not the cheap ones. He wants it to say the actual words. “Pregnant” or Not Pregnant.” So maybe I should just wait until one week of my missed period.. Whenever that is..

My OBGYN gave me a list of side effects. First side effect, WEIGHT GAIN-mostly in face and stomach- STORY OF MY LIFE! BRING IT ON!!

Other side effects include:

  • Hot flashes

  • Bloating and abdominal discomfort

  • Mood Swings

  • Nausea and Dizziness

  • Abnormal Menstral Bleeding

  • Headaches

During my first round of clomid, I only experienced the weight gain (of course) and mood swings. But now I’m upped to 100mg of clomid instead of 50mg, I might experience them all. I was fortunate to start my clomid on a Thursday right before Martin Luther King Holiday. I get that Monday off so, while I’m on clomid, I don’t have to see anyone.

The scary part.. Since I’m on a higher dose of clomid, more than one egg might be released. Also, the older you are with a really high egg reserve, the more chances of getting twins or even triplets.

Whatever the results that I get with round 2 of clomid. I know this was God’s plan. I just have to be patient. I mean I can’t rush perfection, right? =)
